Here are some handy computer tips to boost your productivity and keep things running smoothly:
Speed & Performance
Restart regularly — it clears memory and installs pending updates
Use keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+C/V/Z, Alt+Tab, Win+D) to save clicks
Close unused browser tabs; they quietly eat RAM
Organization
Name files descriptively with dates (e.g., 2026-03-report-final.pdf) so they sort logically
Use virtual desktops (Win+Tab on Windows, Mission Control on Mac) to group work by project
Pin your most-used apps to the taskbar
Browser
Ctrl+Shift+T reopens a closed tab
Ctrl+L jumps straight to the address bar
Use a password manager instead of reusing passwords
Safety & Backup
Follow the 3-2-1 rule: 3 copies of important files, on 2 different media, 1 offsite (cloud counts)
Enable two-factor authentication on important accounts
Be skeptical of unexpected emails asking you to click links or enter credentials
Hidden Gems
Windows: Win+V gives you a clipboard history; Win+. opens the emoji picker
Mac: Cmd+Space (Spotlight) can do quick math and unit conversions
Both: F2 (or Enter on Mac) renames a selected file without opening it
